About the Project: I worked with Bunnie Riedel, the Executive Director of American Community Television (ACT), to revise the ACT website, manage code, and add various graphic design work and uploaded video PSAs. I also helped to create a promotional poster. ACT is a 501 (c)(4) organization that advocates on behalf of Public, Educational, and Government (PEG) access television stations across the U.S.A. They were gearing up to get signatures in petition for the CAP (Community Access Preservation) Act to protect PEG stations nationwide and wanted an updated website with accurate information, with added graphics and videos to inform the public about their cause.

Applications & Software Used: WordPress, YouTube, Final Cut Pro 7, MPEG Streamclip, Compressor, Quicktime Player, Photoshop CS6, Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF Reader.

My Roles: The website was originally created with WordPress, working with an outside hosting service. I worked with the previous creator and editor on coding issues, and proofread through all pages for spelling/ grammar, outdated facts/ documents, and broken links or other problems. I also provided some advice on the layout of the website and graphic design ideas (website maintenance/ support). Then I created graphics that would go on the home page and “Act Now!” page. These include the clickable buttons on the home page that linked to other pages (the blue “Sign the Petition” and “Act Now for PEG” buttons) and colored pop-out blue text box and green clickable button (on the “Act Now!” page) that would link to their outside signature collection website (PetitionBuzz). These graphics were designed to stand out, provide the essential information on a text-heavy website, and give the viewer an easy way to sign the petition. Last, I added the end tag on the first two C.A.P. Act videos and exported them to be uploaded to YouTube, and then embedded on the WordPress website. I created a new YouTube account for American Community Television and also uploaded the videos.
